Text Adventure

My first assignment as part of my MSc Games Engineering course was to create a program that could parse a provided text file and make a text adventure out of it, in the style of the old infocom games. This was an interesting way of introducing students to game programming, making us start right from the basics instead of just getting stuck in making something with lots of graphical effects. I’d tried (and failed) to make text adventure games in BASIC on my Sinclair Spectrum years ago, so it was nice to revisit the idea, and get it right this time. In addition to the basic coursework requirements, I added in the ability to load and save games.
